We left for Yellowstone the day after I finished up 5 1/2 years of working at the same job. This trip would be the perfect palate cleanser to bigger and better things.

We stayed in Mammoth for three days, so the first morning was spent in town, checking out the ancient springs.







The everchanging landscape will dry up whole hills and then new springs will bubble up to the surface elsewhere, swallowing up and trees that might be around. The scalding, mineral-laden water petrifies the trees from the roots up.



Bison were everywhere too. They always have the right of way.











The views are spectacular.
