San Diego is as far away from New Orleans as you can get, but the Gator By The Bay Festival brings us the swinging good times and mudbugs right to us. Click on a photo to go to the full gallery.



Euphoria Brass Band is a new band in town, started by NOLA natives Ron Bocian of Red Fox Tails fame and guitarist Dave Bandrowski.





An 8-piece band that's designed for marching keeps the players nimble and mobile. It also means the drum duties are necessarily split between two people. KSDS DJ Drew Miller holds down the bass drum.





The sousaphone is a big bass instrument, as is the baritone sax. They are both way heavier than they look.







After the set, I did a quick group shot for them (pics up soon) and then headed straight to the crawfish booth. No photos of that though, cameras and mudbug juice are a bad mix. We ate to the sounds of yet another Nena Anderson-fronted band, the Mules.







Nena is a terrific performer, and I think I've shot every one of her rock and country bands now. Still have to catch a jazz gig of hers.
