Mira Mesa at Night, 4/16/11
After Silian Rail's set, I passed by something on my way home that looked totally different under the full moon. I had to stop and spend a few hours finding out how to capture its mood under a bright full moon.

I drive past this tiny wooded area every day on my way to work, and it was a good place to experiment with shooting some trees under a full moon. Maybe it's not the most exciting location, but there's something to be said for being within walking distance of a night shoot. Click on a photo to go to the full gallery.
I expected tree branches to move more over these 2-8 minute exposures. There wasn't much wind, but a fog did start rolling in around 3 am.
Oh what a difference light and fog can make.

The nighttime is a great time to shoot. These look spectacular, especially the first few which make night look like day.
Did you even know that the fog probably rolls through every night. I don't know how it is in California, but it's a trip to see fog roll through so casually.
