Backyard on New Year's Eve, 12/31/09

After coming back from Mandarin Garden, we still had a few hours to kill before midnight. Heather had a chick-flick to finish, so I drank hot tea out in the backyard and shot some moonlight in preparation for the next night.

The monnlight gives it this Edward Hopper-like glow which I'll capture next time. Since I had the time to do long exposures, I went for a more full toned look instead of a dark look. The waterslide is for sale, by the way. I'll cut you a deal on it if you mention "Eyebrow" as the secret word.

Since it's illuminated by the sun, a direct shot of the moon needs to be exposed for like any other sunlit object. It will be overexposed with any shutter speed over a couple seconds. For reference, the lights in the house were quite dim, but over the two minute exposure, even they become bright.

Once I put the camera away, we rang in the new year in that jacuzzi. Just me, Heather, and some drinks- a perfect way to start off 2010.
