Blog-o-versary!

This past Tin Can Ale House shoot was the last one I shot in the month, making it year now since I started this blog. I didn't mention it to many people until recently, but my year-long experiment was to try and shoot every musical performance I saw, and to make it a point to see a lot of them. It's been a great year for me, photographically speaking. I'll elaborate on what that means very soon.

I've shot 161 sets of music this year, not counting promo shots of bands, which I'm ramping up now too. I'm proud of the fact that all that music was more or less evenly split between rock and jazz.. I did see more rock bands, but that' just because rock music is presented in showcase form with multiple bands per night. Jazz is one group for 2 or 3 sets.

From now on, I'm giving myself permission to not have to obsessively shoot every band I see. I can take a night off if I want and just be a regular fan. This will give me more time to work on each post, maybe improve my writing style a bit, as well as add more technical information and do more night photography. It's hard to do the night/sunrise stuff if I'm getting home at 2 am and need to get up at 4am.

I never tried to make this a music blog, which is why I barely talk about the music and instead just link to their myspace sites. It's a photo blog that got way out of balance with 90% of the posts being about live music, and I want to do justice to the other things I like to shoot. That's why I'm going to Temecula tonight to shoot the full moon all night.

But first I'm making a quick stop downtown to shoot Swim Party.
