The Earful at the Belly Up, 8/23/09
I don't make it up to the Belly Up very often, so when The Earful invited me to shoot them, it sounded intriguing since it had a couple horn players who I've shot very recently in other groups. This was no jazz gig though.

Jason and Ian took a break from heady jazz this evening for some funky soul music.

Brian Teel of the Devastators is leading this band from the keyboard and for a new group, they're getting some great shows. It helps that they're all great players.

This was a tough shoot for a couple reasons. The headliners had their equipment set up on stage already, and as the opening band The Earful had to cram into the center of the stage. Not a problem for a smaller band, but this is eight people with horns, keys, two percussionists, and a manic bass player. I didn't have many angles to work with, so it required a bit more ingenuity than usual. I even had to hop up on stage for some shots, which is something I normally would never do.

The only way to fit them all into a shot was to shoot them in front of the venue.
