The Long and Short of It, Facepilot, Fing at the Beauty Bar 8/1/09
Sorry for the lack of postage lately, I've been shooting faster than I have been able to process. Lots of good stuff to share including some moonlight madness and seven bands from NPMT.
Last Saturday I went to the Beauty Bar to see hyper frontmen. Fing does not disappoint in that respect. Unfortunately, the lighting does. This will be a short post.

I ended up with only five shots of Fing. The dance floor was packed which was awesome, so I just enjoyed the music and their brand of dance punk and didn't worry too much about photos.
---------------------
The floor cleared out for Facepilot and their heavier sound. Especially after the drummer told the following joke: "Why aren't hipsters good at karate? Because they can't get past the white belt." I guess that's a hipster fashion thing?

They're funny guys who don't take themselves too seriously. They just like to have fun and make some music, probably in that order.

The only reason I have a halfway decent shot of the drummer is because he set up front and center. It gave me a chance to put my ultra-wide angle lens a few inches away from his bass drum. Next time I'm getting it even further in and try to get some unique perspectives.

------------------
With constantly changing sidelighting, I knew I was going to have problems trying to capture The Long and Short of It in any way that does them justice.

The amount of processing I had to do was pretty extreme to salvage these shots looked like crap, so I decided to really go for a different look. Before I knew it, I turned Ben into a yellow monster.

Ben wants you to see the rest of the photos by clicking on him.

Go see him tomorrow night at the Radio Room for his other band, Hostile Comb-over. It's their last show as they all move on to bigger and better things. With any luck, they'll play Sink Or Swim one last time.
