Jeff Miles Quartet at Dizzy's 1/04/09

This was my first concert of the year, and it's looking like it's going to be a great 2009! I have one more show to shoot tomorrow night before leaving for NY/Cleveland for a week. It's going to be my first chance to shoot snow and East Coast life, and I'm looking forward to it. Well, maybe not the snow part...

Jeff Miles asked me to shoot his quartet appearance at Dizzy's, and it was quite a show. It was mostly a night of Jeff's knotty compositions, handled capably by a bi-coastal group of other young guys. I tried to stay in the shadows as much as possible for this show, so I wasn't able to get as close as I would have liked, so this turned out to be a bit more of a distant, reserved looking set of photos than usual. Live though, it was a very spirited affair.

Jeff Miles- Guitar

Between his Chet Baker looks and Pat Metheny talent, it's only a matter of time before Jeff is a household name. Heck of a nice guy too.

Joshua White- Piano

I think the only other time I saw Joshua play was at the Jazz Bass Summit last June. I'm looking forward to hearing more.

Danny Weller- Bass

Danny's playing about 6 more times at Dizzy's this month, all with different bands. It's easy to hear why everybody wants to play with him, he's supremely creative. I know this because MUCH better bass players than me told me so last night.

Cameron Outlaw- Drums

Jeff imported Cameron from Boston just to play a string of West Coast dates. That says something right there.

It's going to be a little while before my next post, I won't have any time to process photos over the next week, since my days will be filled taking them in NY/Ohio. I plan to come back with about 2000 photos to go through-in between naps, work, and defrosting my extremities.
